4 Steps To Help You Rise Above Misfortune


Life isn’t always easy with all its ups and downs. Everybody faces misfortunes in their lives. Some big, some small, some personal and some natural. But, life never stops for anyone, it goes on. It is them up to us to deal with such misfortunes and rise above them to regain control of our lives. Dealing with negativity is quite a struggle, especially when nothing in your life seems to be going your way. You could either live the land of pessimists or choose to follow a more positive and productive path out of your misfortune. It is this choice of yours that defines the kind of life you have and the kind of person you will become.

Here are 4 steps to help you rise above the misfortune in your life.

1.     Let Go

The first step would be to accept you have no control over the past events. Yes, it is hard to let go of control but when it is not in our power to change certain things in our lives, the best thing to do is let go. Trying to hold on to things and notions will only cause distress. Instead, you should be trying to work on aspects of life you can control. It is not easy. It is also not an overnight change you can make. Start small and keep at it.

2.     Choose

It does boil down to a choice. You choose to move on or you choose to delve deeper in your misery. Outcomes are decided not by what happens to you but by how you handle what happens to you. It is not impossible or even difficult to rise above your misfortune, you just need to make a conscious decision to do so first! Every turn in our life, for better or worse, is the outcome of a choice we have made in our past. Along with making choices, also take up the responsibility of dealing with whatever consequences your choices brings with it.

3.     Recalibrate

So you hit a rough patch.  Rough patches don't give you the excuse to throw your hands in the air and give up. Quickly assess what is going wrong in your life and then change it. While change is not easy and not always a welcome option, it does provide you with a fresh start, a brand-new place to start again. Also, change your mindset to realign with the changes you are making in your life. you wouldn’t want your mind to lag behind in the past while you are setting foot into the future.

4.     Believe

Have faith. Believe in yourself. Believe you can overcome and rise above your misfortunes. With a firm conviction in yourself and your abilities to overcomes all odds, you have already won half the battle. A negative attitude has never helped anyone. It only brings in more desperation and frustration. By being positive, you start believing in your capabilities.  Strong sense of conviction in yourself is what gets you started and keeps you moving. So, start believing.

Bouncing back from any sort of misfortune takes time. While some of us might get back on track easily, some need a little more time and a little more push. Everybody rises up in a different way. So, go easy on yourself. Take as much time as you need to get back up. And remember to always believe!
